ADULT: Lord Jesus, when you were born, angels sang joyfully “Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth.” Let our praise and gratitude this evening bring us a blessing of peace in our home and
throughout the world.
ALL: Amen (All four candles are lighted and allowed to burn during the evening meal).
THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT
ADULT: O Lord, just as our days are shorter and darker without the sun’s light, our lives are empty without the light of Jesus in our hearts. We pray that these candles will be a sign of Christ’s life in us,
giving light to the people we meet. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
ALL: Amen (Three candles, one being pink, are lit and allowed to burn during the evening meal).
SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT
ADULT: O Lord, our hearts are full of joy as we eagerly await Your coming. Help us this week to be unselfish, grateful for all the gifts you give us every moment of our lives, and generous as You have taught us to be. We ask this through Your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
ALL: Amen (Two candles are lit and allowed to burn during the evening meal).
FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT
Sunday: The family gathers for the blessing of the wreath by an adult member of the family.
ADULT: Lord, You have brought us to this holy season of waiting. It is You who truly bless all things and make them holy. We ask You then, O Lord, to bless this wreath, so it may be a sign of Your everlasting love and presence with us. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
ALL: Amen (The wreath is sprinkled with holy water. The prayer for the first week of Advent is read, and at its conclusion, the first candle is lighted).
Week Prayer:
O Lord, You kept Your promise to send the Savior who was Jesus. We wait now for His coming into our hearts at Christmas. Help us as we try to make room for Him in our lives by following His loving example this Advent season.
All: Amen (One candle is lit and left burning during the evening meal).
