As mentioned in Fr. Metzler’s recent letter in the bulletin (which can also be read on the home page of the parish website), a committee has drafted a new Constitution for our Parish Council. The following is a summary of the Constitution:
The Constitution calls for:
A council that is elected rather than appointed
A council of approximately 15 members – 5 members selected in a parish election; a representative selected from each of 5 parish Ministry Clusters (as noted below); two youth members; a representative from the parish finance committee; clergy assigned to St. Mary’s
Members elected parish-wide would serve two-year terms; representatives of Ministry Clusters would serve one-year terms; youth members serve a maximum of two years
The new council would be elected in January 2010 with subsequent elections taking place in the spring (starting in May 2011) in order to have members seated by June.
Ministry Clusters
Each group/organization within the parish has been placed in one of 5 ‘Ministry Clusters.’ The organizations contained within each Cluster will collaborate to select a representative to serve on the parish council – a council member who can, in turn, serve as a liaison to that cluster of organizations. The categories are:
Education
Liturgical
Outreach
Social
Spiritual Development
A complete copy of the Constitution is available. Hard copies are also available at the parish office.
