Our Religious Education and Confirmation Preparation Preparation Programs for grades 7-10 run at Saint Mary's School from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Sunday evenings. Middle and high school students gather with their small groups and catechists on alternating evenings from September through May.
Each program is now guided by a new curriculum including videos and small group discussion. The modern, fast-paced videos have been cited as a favorite aspect of each curriculum. Scroll down to view the videos and sample this new model of catechesis!
Program calendars have been posted and are ready to be downloaded onto any electronic device.
The new seventh grade curriculum, Encounter, is a unique middle school Bible Study which provides a seamless transition into Confirmation Prep as both programs use the small group model. The eight sessions walk our students through the Bible from Genesis to the Acts of the Apostles.
The process of sacramental preparation now begins in eighth grade. Our new Confirmation Prep curriculum, Chosen, engages our youth with videos and small group discussion.
The curriculum is divided into three phases based on the Scripture passage in the Gospel of John.
"Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me" (John 14:6).
|Grade 8: The Way - lessons 1-8

This is a safety and self-awareness program that is a requirement of Office of Safe Environment at the Archdiocese of Hartford in response to the safe environment mandate from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
The USCCB expects that all, "churches, schools, and youth organizations must ensure that children and youth who worship, study, or participate in activities sponsored by a parish can do so in the safest and most secure setting possible."
The curriculum incorporates small group discussion and a newscast that was recently filmed by IGNITE Youth Ministry. The Catholic faith is consistently incorporated throughout the night highlighting the power of prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit which we often credit as our conscious. Our newscast even covers the question, "Why doesn't God prevent someone from using these lures?"
