Embracing Joy: Learning to Bear the Beams of Love
In this journey called life, we are invited to relationship, and it is through relationship that we are schooled in love. St. Paul described this love in his first letter to the Corinthians:
Love bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.
- 1Corinthians 13: 7
Life offers us many opportunities to choose love, especially in the midst of chaos and struggle. We are gently beckoned to come close to love, to embrace love, to learn how we might love others. As William Blake wrote: “…we are put on earth a little space that we may learn to bear the beams of love.”
In this retreat we will come to discover that this process takes a lifetime, but the fruit of the journey is joy. A wise woman once said, “Joy is not the happiness we crave; joy is the sunshine that breaks through the storm clouds …. It is the echo of the God-life that bubbles up to the surface of our life precisely when we least expect it.”
